Dear Camp Families,

We hope you are doing well and continuing to navigate this new normal (that is temporary). It feels like years since we last reached out and with things changing so quickly, it’s hard to keep up. After much research, conversation and deliberation, we made the difficult decision to cancel sessions 2 (June 1-5) and 3 (June 8-12) at Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp. It is our intention to start our summer on June 15 with the backing of the health department.

We realize this is not an easy statement to hear. Please know how much we want to see your campers and that this is sad for us too. We work year round to make camp happen and the thought of losing even a few weeks is heartbreaking. We came to the decision after using resources from the Tennessee Department of Health, the CDC, the American Camp Association (our accrediting organization), and the Association of Camp Nurses. We feel bringing everyone together so early during the re-opening phase leaves everyone more vulnerable. The safety of our campers, their families, and our staff have and always will be our number one priority.

We’ll be sending you a full refund for your session. Refunds will be done by credit card and will be processed within 30 days. If you have questions about this time frame, please reach out for more details. You will receive an updated invoice once the refund is processed. At this time, we are not able to move your registration to a later session as we do not know what capacities the state will allow us to run. We are also unable to carry over any registrations to summer 2021 but are working on plans for allowing our families who had a session canceled, to register early for next summer.

While we understand it does not make up for the loss of traditional summer camp, we are excited to announce that we will be offering a limited number of spots for our new private Family Day Camp Pass this May. This is a chance for your family to visit camp and explore the wonders of Whippoorwill while socially distanced from other families and staff. See http://whippoorwill.com/family-day-pass/ for more details.

Don’t forget to visit our Facebook and Instagram pages for fun resources to keep your kiddos busy this spring and summer.

Thank you for your support of our small family business. We’ve seen a lot in our 48 years of continuous operation, and we know we will make it to the other side of this pandemic. We look forward to the future when we can all be at Whippoorwill together again.
