Beginning in 2020, we are excited to offer limited Junior Counselor positions for rising high school seniors who have attended at least one year of Leadership Challenge.

Junior Counselors have the opportunity to work with our 1st-3rd grade campers in various activities. They are paired up with a full-time staff member and supervised at all times, but are given more opportunity to try things on their own and grow more as a counselor.

Junior Counselors help lead activities, songs, and games and share lunch and snack time with campers. In our selection process, we look for advanced, responsible candidates who will follow all camp rules and staff procedures and assist the Counselors in enforcing those rules. As part of their development, junior counselors will receive formal feedback from Program Directors so they can grow and learn from their summer experience.

After completing a summer with us as a Junior Counselor, they will be invited to join staff as a full-time counselor the summer after their senior year of high school.

Junior Counselors are hired for 5 weeks and are required to attend staff training in May (or arrange with the Executive Director a way to make up the staff training, if school schedule does not allow.) Junior Counselors are paid a weekly stipend as well as many other benefits, which include:

  • Leadership experience
  • Collaboration with a diverse staff
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities
  • Receive valuable feedback which can be applied to future job opportunities
  • Obtain Child Development skills
  • Create lasting relationships with both campers and fellow staff

Coming in Summer 2020!

There will be a limited number of Junior Counselor positions available for Summer 2020. The deadline to submit your application will be March 1, 2020. All positions will be filled by April 1, 2020.
