For campers entering 7th or 8th grade

Teepee Elder campers have fun choosing adventurous activities throughout the day and have special programming twice a week. On Wednesdays, the Elders will learn how to make a campfire and will cook their own lunch and dessert.

Favorite activities for Teepee Elder campers include tree climbing, rappelling or rock climbing the 40-foot wall, bike riding, and the Flying Squirrel. Other activities are: nature exploration, gardening and learning about the farm animals, arts and crafts, kayaking, hiking, drama, fishing, crawdad-catching, inner tubing in the pond, pottery, camp newspaper, movie making, free swimming, field games, archery, pony rides, outdoor cooking, zip line, creek exploring, archaeology, and tie-dye.

Campers spend one hour in each activity group. Sometimes an activity fills up; we ask campers to have a second choice in mind. If the activity continues to fill up and by Wednesday your camper has not done that activity, let us know and we will put your child’s name at the top of the list for the next day’s group. We recommend that campers attend Whippoorwill for two sessions to participate in all activity choices or spend more time in a favorite activity.

Teepee Overnight

Whippoorwill offers an overnight camp-out adventure for Teepee and Teepee Elder campers. The fun begins at the end of the week, as the buses leave for the day on Friday. 25-30 lucky campers get to continue their camp experience. Campers will spend the first hour setting up their camp. Campers can bring tents for themselves or to share with a friend. Or they can sleep under the stars or in our gazebo for the evening.

Once camp is set up, everyone enjoys an afternoon and evening filled with popular camp activities and special programming. Dinner is served by the campfire and followed by a night swim. Once everyone is ready for bed, we close the night with some songs and sweets by the fire. Campers wake up with the dawn (and the rooster!) and continue the fun with a morning activity and breakfast.

All campers must be picked up by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Campers must be enrolled in Teepee or Teepee Elders camp for the session that the overnight occurs to participate. For 2018, overnights are held during sessions 2, 4, 7 and 8. The cost is $115 and space is limited. You may add the overnight to your online registration or you can call the office at 615-799-9925.
