Shanelle is the general camp director and supports the camp in the areas of programming, staff development and helping each camper have a quality experience. This will be her 14th summer at Whippoorwill and 10th as executive director. Shanelle worked at Disney World in Entertainment and was really good friends with Mickey and Minnie! Holly FahyBear Cubs Director
Holly has been at Whippoorwill for three summers, and this will be her first summer as a director. She is graduating from UT Knoxville in May with a degree in Journalism and English. She plans to begin graduate school in the fall to pursue library science. She enjoys cuddling with her three dogs, reading, and going for hikes through the woods. Her favorite camp activities are creek hikes, archery, and trail hikes. She can’t wait to spend another amazing summer at camp.
Abi YannLog Cabin Director
This is Abi’s seventh year at Whippoorwill. She is currently teaching 8th-grade history in Williamson County! She loves cookies that have been in the freezer and her favorite camp song is Princess Pat. Abi can’t wait to share Whippoorwill with each of our campers and see how the summer fun takes place!
Marlon Major-RicksTeepee Director
Marlon is a senior at MTSU graduating this spring with a degree in psychology. This is Marlon’s fourth summer at camp and his favorite camp song is Quest for Spinach. He loves every single dessert out there, especially ALL candy! He is most looking forward to the warm weather and being back with his Teepee campers!
Carter VandrasikDirector of Teen Leadership
Carter is currently a Junior at the University of Tennessee at Martin with a major in Geosciences, a Concentration in Meteorology and a Minor in Communications. His favorite camp song is easily the Kool-Aid Song as it is fast paced and gets louder as it goes on! Carter’s favorite dessert is Oreo Cheesecake! This is his 3rd summer at camp and he is most excited to be joining the Leadership Team this summer and getting the opportunity to be a role model for the Teens in the Teen Program! Carter is also excited for the Trail Hikes to come!
Carly PikeAquatics Coordinator
Carly will graduate this May from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s in Social Work. This will be her fourth summer with us at camp. Her favorite camp song is Quest for Spinach and her favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake. She is excited about spending another aquatics filled summer centered in nature, growing her friendships, and expanding her leadership skills!
Emma TerryKrawdad Kitchen Koordinator
Emma is a Pre-K teacher in the Nashville area who is back for her fifth summer at Whippoorwill. This will be her first year on leadership as our new Krawdad Kitchen Koordinator. Her favorite camp song is Tarzan and her favorite dessert is homemade red velvet cake. Emma is most excited to work in the krawdad kitchen, meeting new campers and celebrating the 50th summer at the BEST camp in Nashville!
Ally JacksonRopes Co-Coordinator
Ally is a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is excited to be back at camp for a third summer, and her first on our leadership team. Her favorite camp song is the Bean Song and her favorite dessert is a chocolate chip cookie, but any cookie will do! She is most excited to see all the campers again and to meet all the newcomers!
Mac KelleyRopes Co-Coordinator
Mac is a student at Pitzer College in California. His favorite camp song is the Big Blue Dragon and is a proud Blue Dragon car rider at camp. Mac loves chocolate chip cookies and will be returning for his fourth summer on staff (but he has been coming to camp since he was a Bear Cub)!
Mango LevinArts and Crafts Co-Coordinator
Mango is a student at Kalamazoo College up in Michigan. She also works at Lindt Chocolate in Nashville and supplies the office with treats! Her favorite camp song is The Littlest Worm and she loves cake! She will be returning for her third year as Arts and Craft Coordinator and has been a long time camper as well. Mango can’t wait to make lots of shrinky dink name tags this summer!
Janet McLaughlinMusic Coordinator
Janet is excited to return to camp for another summer of music fun! She loves being part of the Whippoorwill community. Her favorite camp song is the Bear Cub song (they are so cute)! And Janet loves pecan pie. When she is not at camp, you can find her teaching music at various schools around Nashville and on occasion at the Blue Bird Cafe!
Shelia BrownCamp Nurse
Shelia has been a registered nurse for over 10 years and currently works as a school nurse for Centennial Elementary School in Dickson. She loves hanging out with her husband Ben and daughter Charlotte. Together, they love being outside, exploring, and taking new adventures. Shelia attended a summer camp for 7 years as a child and LOVED it. She looks forward to her third year at Camp Whippoorwill!
Mary is a school nurse for MNPS and works for the Davidson County health department. This will be her third summer with us. Mary’s favorite camp song is the Bog Song and she loves strawberries and cream together in any combination. Mary is excited to see all her camp friends and to eat s’mores!
Amber is a School Health Nurse Supervisor for the Metro Public Health Department and a mom of four boys! Her favorite camp song is the Log Cabin version of We Will Rock You. She loves ice cream. Amber is most looking forward to time at camp and working with the campers again as she returns for her fourth summer! Outside of camp, she loves spending time in nature, hiking, fishing and swimming with her husband and boys.
McKayla SpurlockMental Health Specialist
McKayla is a School-Based Therapist at Dickson Middle and Creek Wood High during the school year. Her favorite camp song is Pop-see-Ko and she is excited to teach us this new song. She loves chocolate silk pie or cheesecake with caramel. McKayla is excited to see our campers learn, grown and have fun this summer.
Katie RhodesOffice Coordinator
Katie is a mom to three kiddos, a preschool music teacher and on occasion a Shipt Shopper. She is excited for her first summer at Whippoorwill keeping the office in order and answering all the parent questions! Her favorite song is the Whippoorwill camp song, especially when her kids are screaming it in the car. She loves Ted’s Strawberry Shortcake. Katie is excited to see all the fun firsthand since her kids have been coming to camp for years! She once wrote a children’s book called “I Woke up with a Wedgie.” Maybe we will get to hear the story this summer!
Henry MurreyBusiness Manager
Henry helps maintain the camp’s infrastructure and works with financials. He says: “It’s all about the kids!”
Gill MurreyCamp Assistant
Gill pitches in with all areas of camp: shopping, gardening, raking hydrilla, and helping out wherever needed. She grew up on the farm and, after a career in communications, headed back to the country!
