Minimum Qualifications:
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
- Basic knowledge of cooking and the use of kitchen appliances and utensils
- Joy for cooking and creating or discovering new recipes
- Good time management and flexibility
- Ability to relate to one’s peers
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance
- Good character, integrity, and self-control
- Ability to maintain enthusiasm, positive attitude, and appearance, and interact with campers at all times
- Minimum age: 20 years old
Reports to:
Program Director and Executive Director
Description:
Create and lead basic cooking activities with campers in elementary and middle school grades. Encourage an organic cooking approach with farm to table elements.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe and clean kitchen for campers and staff
- Select or create camp-friendly recipes for campers each week appropriate to their age group
- Read Health Alerts and mindfully plan recipes
- Assemble shopping list of ingredients needed for each week and stay within designated budget
- Communicate regularly with program directors to verify activities and schedules
- Set up stations with tools and supplies prior to each activity period
- Lead cooking activities when a scheduled group arrives and teach basic cooking skills such as measuring, whisking, stirring, or pouring
- Teach campers how to safely use cooking equipment (knives, graters, stove, oven, hot pans, etc.).
- Organize and distribute kitchen treats made by campers to each camp by end of day
- Organize clean up by period and clean daily following provided checklist
